Bangor Trident Base is located 20 miles northwest of Seattle, Washington. It is the largest strategic nuclear submarine base in the United States and is home to the U.S. Navy’s Pacific submarine fleet.

The base was established in 1977 and is situated on the Kitsap Peninsula, along the Hood Canal. It covers approximately 11,000 acres and is a vital component of the U.S. Navy’s strategic deterrence capabilities. Bangor Trident Base is the only Trident submarine base on the West Coast and is responsible for the maintenance, support, and operation of the Ohio-class submarines, which carry Trident missiles.

The base is home to eight nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines and two guided-missile submarines. These submarines play a critical role in the U.S. nuclear deterrent strategy, providing strategic stability and security. Bangor Trident Base is also home to the Naval Submarine Base Bangor, which provides support services for the submarines and their crews.

The base has several key facilities, including a weapons handling and loading facility, a security detachment, a strategic weapons facility, and a support facility for maintenance and repairs. It also has a waterfront complex that includes a deep-water pier, maintenance facilities, and a weapons handling area.

The base’s strategic location on the West Coast provides quick access to the Pacific Ocean, allowing the submarines to quickly deploy and respond to any potential threats. The base is also well-protected and secure, with advanced security measures in place to ensure the safety of the submarines and their crews.

In addition to its military operations, Bangor Trident Base plays an important role in the local community. The base provides employment opportunities for thousands of military personnel, civilians, and contractors. It also contributes to the local economy through its purchases of goods and services from the surrounding area.

Overall, Bangor Trident Base is a critical component of the U.S. Navy’s strategic deterrence capabilities and is an important part of the nation’s defense infrastructure. Its location, facilities, and personnel make it a key asset in maintaining peace and stability in the Pacific region.
